Ţaga Lake
On the administrative area of Ţaga commune were formed accumulations that had the role of protecting against floods, becoming over time fishing facilities. The same as the Sucutard lakes, Sântejude and Geaca, Ţaga Mare lake is in fact an accumulation resulted from organizing the Fizeş Valley, currently with potential for fish farming exploitation.
The first anthropic intervention was the construction of a dam through which the lakes Ţaga Mare was separated from Ţaga Mică, which led to a fishing exploitation area of Ţaga Mare lake of approximately 100 ha. The organized surfaces in the Fizeş Valley represent almost one third of the total surfaces made for fishing purposes in Câmpia Transilvaniei, gaining second place as a surface after the Pârâul de Câmpie basin.
Geaca Lake
Geaca Lake is located at about 50 km from Cluj-Napoca, being organized in such a way as to provide optimal conditions for fishing lovers. The location is a fishing complex supplied by the Fizeş river. The Geaca lake complex – Geaca I, II and III – is populated with species such as catfish, pike or perch. The lake complex of Geaca commune is an attraction point for both locals and fishing tourists enthusiasts.
Someșul Cald Lake
Someşul Cald Lake is an accumulation lake with tourist function on the Someşul Cald Valley. The dam has a height of 33.5 m and a length of 130 m, the hydroelectric power station being put into operation in 1983. The lake covers an area of 6 ha, and the fish species found in the lake are: roach, perch, chub, grayling, bleak, trout, rudd and pike.
Gilău Lake
Gilău Lake is an accumulation lake located upstream of the confluence of Someşul Cald and Someşul Rece, formed after the construction of the hydroelectric dam in 1972. It is one of the main recreational lakes of Cluj, having an area of approximately 70 ha.
Downstream of the dam works one of the most important trout farms in the country, which has a double role: the trout production for consumption and trout brood for the population of mountain waters. Gilău lake is one of the most wanted destinations for sport fishing, one of its shores hosting a complex leisure base.
Pike Lake
Pike Lake is a protected area of national interest, located in Fizeşu Gherlii commune, Săcălaia village. The pike, the dominant fish species of the lake, gave the reservation it’s name. The lake is a natural freshwater lake formed on a salty soil ground, where we find fish species such as pike, pikeperch, catfish, carp and crucian or birds like coots, bunting, grey heron, etc.
This environment favored the development of a fauna and flora biodiversity almost similar in number of species to the one in the Danube Delta, Pike lake being the only lake in Romania on whose luster plaur grows (floating islands covered with reed).
Tarniţa Lake
Tarniţa Lake is an accumulation lake located on Someşul Cald river. It has an area of over 200 ha, and the existing dam is built of concrete in the shape of an arch, with a height of 97 m, a crest length of 237 m, having as main purpose the production of electricity.
The lake is the main source of water supply for the treatment station in Gilău, a station that supplies drinking and industrial water for Cluj-Napoca and other areas in Cluj County.
Periodically, various swimming or sport fishing competitions are organized by sports associations.
Drăgan Lake
Drăgan Lake is located at the confluence of Drăgan River with Sebeșel River. The dam has a height of 120 m and a crest opening of 442 m, this opening being one of the largest in Romania. This lake has multiple roles: electricity production, regularization of Crişul Repede and flood mitigation. It is also supplied by the flow of 8 secondary catchments made on the neighboring slopes valleys and provides the necessary flow for Remeţi hydroelectric power station located in the Hell Valley.
The area has a unique picturesque, providing accommodation facilities such as tourist pensions, favoring off-road sports activities and mountain-bike.
Sasului Valley Waterfall
Ciucaş Waterfall
Ciucaş Waterfall is located in the Hășdatelor Gorge near the Corneşti village from Mihai Viteazu commune. The waterfall, although it has a height of about 5 m, has numerous slope breaks, rapids, and at the base of the waterfall the water forms a small lake, all these aspects giving it a special touch.
Also, the Hășdate river turns through rocks where it carves a stone vault, creating a natural “Jacuzzi”, thus giving photography enthusiasts the perfect setting for spectacular images.
