Pike Lake is a protected area of national interest, located in Fizeşu Gherlii commune, Săcălaia village. The pike, the dominant fish species of the lake, gave the reservation it’s name. The lake is a natural freshwater lake formed on a salty soil ground, where we find fish species such as pike, pikeperch, catfish, carp and crucian or birds like coots, bunting, grey heron, etc.
This environment favored the development of a fauna and flora biodiversity almost similar in number of species to the one in the Danube Delta, Pike lake being the only lake in Romania on whose luster plaur grows (floating islands covered with reed).
